Sometimes I want things I can’t have. DON’T WE ALL?!! I sincerely hope I am not alone in this one. Ha! That’d be sad.
This year I wanted to redo my master bedroom for my birthday. I pulled out my Anthro magazine, looked through fancy Pinterest pictures, gathered my likes and dislikes, thought about what I had that I could work with and what needed to go…. I looked and thought and the started to shop. But, not just shop and go nuts, I decided I would shop smart! That I would only use money to buy new things from what I had sold of my old things… getting tricky now.
This meant I had to be a bit thrifty and more patient. I can do this…right?!!
Well, I pulled up some seriously beautiful inspiration from some of my blogger friends and was then fully committed to my budget friendly room makeover goal.
Check out these amazing room makeovers on a budget!! You need to read the posts from these blogs also, some actually came out on top of their budgets after redoing their rooms…crazy town!
Kendra from Momtique Blog created a beautiful french country master bedroom on a budget. One of my favorite parts of this room is her headboard.
She said, “I wanted a beautifully ornate french headboard. Unfortunately, the ones I wanted were all way out of my budget. And yes, I searched Craigslist for years. So instead my dad and I made a garden gate headboard, which I am absolutely in love with.”
I love that! Sometimes you have to build it yourself to get what you want and to stay in budget.

The majority of the time it’s all about the headboard making a statement that really pulls the whole room together. Just like Kendra, Whitney and Dustin from The Rooster and The Hen, built their headboard. They have a step by step tutorial over on their blog- click HERE. They sold all their old furniture and pretty much made or found other thrifty ways to furnish their room. AND! Get this, they actually had extra money when all was said and done! Ah! That’d be nice. Kristen from Studio 7 Interiors was like me, she let her master bedroom be “the catch all” and was the last room on her list. She said this about her new space being decorated, “But, for the last few weeks with my room fully designed, I not only go to bed and wake up happy, but it just for whatever reason makes my day smoother, makes my life a little more organized… and flat out just makes me happy and content.”
That’s my goal for my room. With a new baby on the way I want my room to feel relaxing and be a happy place to cuddle the new babe.
Check out ways Kristen saved money on this room by checking out her blog post HERE.
Heather from One Horse Lane blog JUST redid her master bedroom. This cozy farmhouse style room is a great lesson in texture and how to use neutrals together. Heather said, “To me, one of the most important things about creating a cozy master bedroom is adding layers with natural blankets and farmhouse pillows.” I love her chunky knit blanket on the end of her bed and the reclaimed wood mural. See more of this room HERE.
And, I know this is about master BEDROOMS, but I just can’t leave this blog post without also sharing about Mysha’s (from Remington Avenue) master BATHROOM makeover. That’s probably a space that is more neglected than our bedrooms…haha!
Look how gorgeous this turned out.
Mysha is a DIY girl after my own heart. She saved money by doing some of the demo herself and get this, “tiling over tile.” Did you know that was possible? I didn’t!! Check out her blog for more pictures and tutorials for how she made over this space in 6 weeks and on a budget. Click HERE.
So far, for my room, I have started on a few projects and purchased a few items. I am crossing my fingers and toes it all comes together!
Here’s a little sneak peak of the direction I am heading…
Some of my inspiration from good ol’ Anthropologie.
This huge thing will be getting painted a dark navy blue and will hopefully make a statement in my room. I couldn’t afford the Anthro headboard, so I searched and found this one for $100 at a thrift store. I am also moving the position of my bed in my room…can’t wait to see how it feels once it is in a new spot.
RUGS, RUGS, RUGS! Rugs are hard to decide on and expensive… I had to search for the right size, look, and price. Thankfully I was able to get an awesome vintage one from Mollie of Design Loves Detail. I’ll give you a little sneak peak…
Now I gotta get to work and finish the dang thang!
