I was brainstorming how to create a cute modern baby mobile for a nursery I was working on when I saw this flower pot at JoAnn Fabrics. I love when the DIY lighting strikes! This pot had the perfect shape and color for what I wanted to make.
I pulled the silver pot out of the black metal frame and turned the frame upside down. I knew the black frame would be a great way to add dimension to the ceiling above the baby crib. My plan was to hang leather from the frame for moment. It took a little bit of trial and error to figure out HOW I would hang the leather from the frame. I first tried key rings, but they would not open wide enough connect to the frame and they were hard to get on to the leather. I ran to Home Depot to look around for something that could work. I found black chain that was just the right size.
I opened up the chain with pliers and a twisting motion (You can see how to open the chain in my YouTube Video below). This pretty black chain helped me to connect the frame to the leather safely so it could be hung above baby’s bed.
Before I could connect the leather to the chain I cut this leather into 1 inch strips. The length was different or each piece because of the look I was going for. I use a leather hole punch to make a hole at the top of each strip.

You will need:

I like to buy my leather from Tandy Leather. There is a local store front near my home in Utah. They have store nationwide I believe.
A leather hole punch

a metal ring, embroidery hoop, or metal piece to hang leather from
gardening chain

I think it turned out pretty cute!! Also- if you can’t find a metal frame like this one. You could use a metal ring or a wooden embroidery hoop. I show a few ideas in my video above.
