Ever feel like you are itching to create but you feel stuck and don’t know where or how to START?! I have a few ideas for you to help you get out of a creative rut. I am a big BIG fan of getting women to try new ways to express their creativity. It is good to stretch ourselves and try new things!! You nervous yet? Ha! I got you, don’t you worry.
I love to paint…hence the name of my blog. I have always been drawn to PAINT. Watercolors are my favorite paints to use if I am not painting a wall or a piece of furniture. I did this watercolor of koi fish about 9 years ago, when we lived in San Diego.
The last couple of weeks I have been playing around with floral watercolors. After my kids go to bed I bust out my paints and experiment with shapes and mixing colors. It is relaxing for me after a long day of momming.
So here’s the deal! I have TWO amazing ways to get you painting EVEN if you have never touched a paint brush or paints in your life. One is this book by my lovely friend Kristin from Hello Lovely People. I have followed her on Instagram for a long time and always been inspired by her artwork. I was thrilled when she wrote a book last fall sharing her tips and techniques. I read through her book and I think it is perfect for those wanting to start or someone like me who has a little experience but is ready to brush up on their skills. Her book Modern Watercolor can be found HERE.
I have loved looking through this book. I’ve learned a few new techniques and played more with one of my favorite mediums. Check out Kristin’s book on Amazon! My husband bought me this book for Christmas and it made me so happy. It was one of my favorite gifts this last year. It has motivated me to pick up a brush and get painting again!
Okay!! Ready for my second idea to get you moving towards a more creative YOU? it is… The Crafter’s Box! The Crafter’s Box started as a monthly subscription box that brought you all the materials needed for a certain craft along with a digital workshop from an expert. They now have an online marketplace with new and old kits that you can purchase without a subscription. You can even buy just the digital workshop to watch how to create something first hand from the maker who specializes in that craft. It is pretty rad. I have tried quite a few of their boxes and even did one of my own with them. It was a box teaching how to create a wood bead garland. I have learned so much from each box I have done. It has got me to try new things I never would have be brave enough to try on my own.
I recently did their June 2019 box with Colleen Elizabeth doing acrylic landscapes. I learned SO much. Colleen’s video laid out exactly how to create this type of painting. She taught how to mix colors, how to use the brush, and all the little details you need to make a piece of art work like this. I was pretty pleased with how my first one turned out!
There is more than just painting on The Crafter’s Box site though. There is macrame, wood carving, embroidery, ALL kinds of crafts you can explore.
So there are two ways you can get your creative juices flowing. Go get crafty! Be creative! Get in tune with your soul! I went there… I am serious though, it is so good for us to get creative. In whatever form that is best for you, it is a must.
